ADULT & YOUTH PROGRAMS
CHILDREN SWIM LESSONS
The BEST swim lesson program anywhere. Offered year-round.
Children’s swim lessons are held throughout the year. Each set consists of six 40 minute lessons. All levels will be offered but not at all time periods. Registration is held every 3 weeks (check schedule below for exceptions). In all classes we must have at least 3 students to hold the class. Classes may be combined to accommodate the need to hold a class. You must register for lessons online using a credit or debit card. You may register using any Internet web browser by clicking on the Registration link below.

Classes for children ages 6 – 36 months along with parents or an adult.
Our Water Babies Classes are for children ages 6 months to 36 months with their parents or an adult. This class will provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to orient your child to the water and to safely supervise all water activities. This class is the beginning in a process of developing your child’s water and swimming skills. Lessons are held on Saturday mornings and are six 40 minute lessons. Lessons will also be held MWF at 6:25 PM or TTH at 10:30 AM and 11:15 AM during the summer.

Designed for children who have special needs/disabilities.
This class is designed to work with children who have special needs/disabilities. Our Adapted Aquatic instructors are trained to lead participants through a range of water experiences that encourage independence in the water, socializing and specific swimming or exercise skills and routines. Adult swim lesson classes are taught on

The Beginning Adult Class (Water confidence Class) is designed to help those who have never had swim lessons, are afraid in or around water, or for those who would like to learn the basics. The Intermediate/Advanced Adult class is designed to build on the skills learned in the Beginning Adult Class, perfect strokes, or for those wanting more technique. To sign up for this class you must have attended the Beginning Adult Class or be able to swim 10 yards on your front and back as well as swim in deep water. Anyone 14 years of age or older may attend these classes. During the course of the session, please feel free to ask your instructor any questions you may have. Skill Divisions Expectation
2.5 – You are brand new to pickleball; you are not familiar with all the rules.
3.0 – You know the rules and can track your own score; you are working on hitting the ball consistently.
3.5 – You are able to hit the ball consistently; you are working on placing the ball based on pickleball strategy.
4.0 – You place the ball based on pickleball strategy; it is very hard to overpower you with a hard hit.
4.5+ – You have played in several tournaments and won many of them; pickleball lost “game” status a long time ago
Pickleball Training- Six Things To Remember When Hitting The Ball
- Positioning and Orientation: Positioning is most important. Poor positioning will almost always result in a poor or missed shot. Position yourself so that when you swing the paddle the ball has bounced once and is directly in front of you near the peak of its bounce. Always try and get into position early; you want to be in position before the ball arrives.
Orientation: Your shoulder opposite the paddle hand (forehand shot) or paddle hand shoulder (backhand shot) should be pointed the direction you want the ball to go (toward the back of the opposite court). You should be facing 90 degrees to the net.
- Time your swing: If your swing is too early or too late the ball will not go where your shoulder points. If your swing is too late the ball will go toward the forehand sideline on a forehand stroke, and if your swing is late it will go toward the opposite sideline.
- Watch the ball: Watch the ball from the time it leaves the opposition player’s paddle until it reaches your paddle. A number of factors including ball spin affect the flight of the ball. Not all factors are predictable.
- Bend your knees: Many players, but especially beginners, miss their shot because the ball bounces below their swing.
- Make good contact with the ball: Good contact means hitting the ball near its center and near the center of the paddle, but slightly below the ball’s centerline. Angle the paddle slightly upward. If you make contact with the ball too high on the ball it will go into the net or the floor. If you make contact with the ball too low on the ball it will go too high over the net. Try and keep the ball in a range of about 3 to 16 inches above the net. Obviously, the lower the better in almost all cases.
- Follow-through: The last thing, but one of the most important for good ball control, is to follow through with your swing. That means start your swing from behind you and continue the swing after making contact with the ball. Finish the swing at about shoulder height and rotate the paddle in a slightly forward direction. That motion causes the ball to rotate forward (top spin) and produces a nice low arc over the net, when done correctly. Without good follow-through you lose a large amount of control over the ball and it has a tendency to rise. You want your swing to be as level as possible. If you swing up at the ball it will go too high and is more difficult to control and easy to slam. A ball hit with a downward swing is not likely to make it over the net.

This orientation is designed to give you the understanding of how to use the equipment in the Fitness Room. Instead of stumbling around the machines, let one of our personal training staff teach you the proper use of the weight and cardiovascular machines. You will leave this orientation with all the knowledge and confidence required to use the equipment in the Fitness Room.

MEMBER ICE SKATE NIGHT During various times of the year, the Utah Olympic Oval will be open for public ice-skating. During the Monday 7:00 – 9:00pm public skate session, members of the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center can skate for free. All members must show their KOPFC membership card at the Guest Services desk to receive free admission to the public ice skate sessions. For those without their own skates, rentals are only $3.00 per person. Come enjoy “The Fastest Ice on Earth” right in your own back yard!

WATER FITNESS CLASSES: You must be 14 yrs old to attend or 12 -13 years old if accompanied by an adult. We also recommend that you discuss your exercise program with your physician, especially if you are pregnant, recovering from surgery or injuries, or if you have a chronic illness.
Aqua Dance: Anyone can join Aqua Dance. No dance background necessary – just the willingness to move and have fun! Routines feature dynamic rhythms and easy-to-learn steps that will get you moving right away. In minutes you’ll be moving to the beat and having a blast! (Shallow and deep.)
Aqua Fit: This invigorating class uses the resistance of the water, with or without, equipment to give you an energizing workout. Becoming more fit was never so much fun!
Crazy for Cardio: This class challenges your cardio-respiratory system with a variety of equipment to create a wild and crazy, calorieblasting workout.
Diggin’ Deep: Discover the depths of your fitness abilities as you are challenged to “dig deep” within yourself to maximize your fitness results in this total body workout.
Easy Does It: This gentle 45 min. workout may help decrease joint pain & swelling as well as improve joint flexibility. Mild cardiorespiratory training & light strength building exercises make this the perfect class not only for those with arthritis, but for seniors & those just beginning a fitness program. For stability & safety, aquatic shoes are recommended but not required.

Whether you want to lose weight, are training for an obstacle race, have a medical need, or just looking to get fit she can help you reach your fitness goals. Elliott is an ACSM certified personal trainer with an associate’s degree from Salt Lake Community College as a fitness technician. His preparation as a fitness technician included working with student
athletes, seniors, and performing fitness assessments for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office to help them achieve functional performance. Elliott has been involved with a variety of sports such as track, football, rugby, basketball, and competitive paintball. There are many ways to exercise in the water that can be done on your own in any of the indoor pools.
AQUATIC EXERCISE In addition to Lap Swimming, there are many ways to exercise in the water that can be done on your own in any of the indoor pools. Aquatic Exercise is beneficial by taking advantage of the softer landing that water provides on the joints and the extra resistance water adds while moving your arms and legs. Try Water Walking in the shallow areas of the Indoor Competition Pool and Indoor Recreation Pool, walking with and against the current in the Current Canal in the Indoor Recreation Pool, and off-the-bottom exercises in the 50 Meter Pool or deeper areas of the pools with a floatation belt or noodle. Water Exercise is not available at all times and needs to be done during Non-Open Plunge times. Other exceptions in the times apply due to other programs and activities. Youth must be actively exercising & must be supervised by an adult.
Sessions are held in the 50 Meter Pool.
This program is for adult who like doing swim workouts with other and under the direction of a qualified coach. If you are planning on participating in triathlons, it is a great way to improve the swim portion of those events. Masters participants will also be made award of upcoming masters meets. Sessions are held in the 50 Meter Pool.

Program for those looking to take water polo to the next level.
KEARNS WATER POLO CLUB
This is a program for those looking to take water polo to the next level. The team practices year round (split into four seasons) and competes against other clubs around the area and occasionally travels out of state for tournaments. New athletes can start anytime and need to be able to swim 4 laps and it’s usually necessary to complete Water Polo Adventure Class.
The club has 100 to 150 athletes, depending on the time of year. Currently the athletes range from 7 to 18 years old.

YOUTH WATER POLO LEAGUE
Beginning in August, compete against teams from across the state.
This league is open to boys and girls 18 and under.
The purpose of this league is to introduce the sport of water polo to youth and to have fun. The emphasis will be on learning individual and team skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and having fun!
There will be 5 divisions:
10/under – practice on MW 6:15 – 7:00 PM
12/under – practice on MW 6:15 – 7:15 PM
14/under – practice on TuTh 5:30 – 6:45 PM
18/under Girls – practice TuTh 6:45 – 8:15 PM
18/under Boys – practice MW 7:15 – 8:45 PM
Players will be put on teams. All practices and games will be in our 50 meter polo at KOPFC except our 10/under will practice in the Indoor Comp Pool. Practices begin the week of Aug. 20. No prior water polo experience is necessary.

KYAT is a year round swimming team for boys and girls ages 5-18. The team practices under the direction of certified coaches and competes in meets against other teams from across the state and region. Swimmers can tryout anytime, but completion of Swim Adventure is usually necessary.
$30.00/month for members
$36.00/month for general public.

Summer is a time for active play and fun. Join Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center and the Olympic Oval at our annual Kid’s Summer Sports Camp for kids ages 5-12 years old. There will be swimming, ice skating, curling, bounce houses, soccer, and many other games and educational learning activities. The fun will begin Monday, June 3th and goes until Mid August. – Member discount applies to the 9:00AM – Noon & Full Day session options only
– Add’l Child can only be used after the first child is paid at the higher payment. Only 1 child can use the Add’l Child. Add’l Child is only for siblings or those children you have guardianship over during the day.
– All Camps must be paid for online at www.kopfc.com
– All Campers MUST check in at KOPFC front desk

– All registration forms filled out first day you attend Camp.
– Parents must sign Campers in and out of Camp EVERY DAY
– All Camp drop offs will be at KOPFC even if attending only the 12 PM-3 PM/Oval
– All daily activities will be on a calendar that is located on our website at www.kopfc.com or in the lobby at KOPFC or Utah Olympic Oval.
– If attending 9 AM-12 PM, Camper will need athletic shoes, swim suit, and towel. No lunch provided
– If attending 12 PM-3 PM, Campers will need athletic shoes, socks, and athletic style pants.
-Lunch provided at the Summer Lunch Program. If your Camper has any allergies, please provide your Camper with a sack lunch.
– All 3 PM pick-ups will be at Utah Olympic Oval
– Ice skates and helmets will be included for all Oval Campers

SCOUT MERIT BADGES
Scout Merit Badge classes are available throughout the year.
SCOUT MERIT BADGES. Scout Merit Badge classes are available throughout the year. Registration for these classes is on-going and must be done before the 1st day of class. If there isn’t enough registered 24 hours before class, the class may be cancelled. In such a case you will be notified by email and/or phone, and a credit will be given for a future merit badge class. Scouts must attend all classes and all skills must be performed correctly to receive the merit badge. Our instructors are registered with the Boy Scouts of America as Merit Badge Counselors. Scout uniforms are recommended for all merit badge classes except those aquatic activities that will require swim-suits instead. Cancellations/Credits will be offered up to the time of the class. Once the class date has passed there are no refunds or credits.
Scout swim checks (a BSA swim test) are available for $1.25 per scout (in addition to admission fee if participating in other activities). Swim checks can be done anytime during Open Plunge. Let the front counter know you need a scout swim check when checking in to the facility. If bringing a large group (10+) please contact the front desk at 801.966.5555 ext. 0, to be placed on the schedule.
AQUATIC SCOUT PRACTICE. This is a great opportunity to work on skills for Aquatic Scout Merit Badges (no instructor provided).
Fee is $2.50/ scout and does not include other facility activities. There is usually space during open plunge but we strongly suggest calling the facility prior to coming to make sure there is space available at that time.

Intro to Competitive Swim Team
The Swim Adventure (Intro to Competitive Swim Team) is designed for students who have passed the Shark class or an equivalent and will help those interested in competitive swimming make the transition from lessons to competitive swimming easier. This class will focus on continuing to refine the 4 competitive strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle) by learning and practicing different stroke drills. Students will also learn competitive starts from the block as well as competitive turns pertinent to each stroke. This class will focus on using the pace clock and doing sets that will help to build their endurance. Once students pass this class they will move on to the JR/SR Bronze KYAT team.
Class dates follow our lesson program dates. Registration is online only and cost for the program is $30.00 for KOPFC members and $36.00 for general public.

WATER POLO ADVENTURE – SPLASHBALL
Our Water Polo Adventure (Intro to Water Polo/Splashball) Program is designed to introduce the sport of water polo to children. The intent is to provide basic skills and understanding of the sport in a recreational format. Although water polo is known for its toughness and endurance, Water Polo Adventure will harness all the fun, dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy to learn aquatic experience that will motivate kids to swim and stay fit. Students must meet entry skill requirements for this class. They must be able to swim and tread water.
Classes will be held in conjunction with our Regular Lesson Schedule.

Up With Kids! presents “THE GREATEST SHOW! Starring… YOU! ”
Up With Kids! Musical Theater Academy is now enrolling new students ages 4-17 for our 33rd season. We are thrilled to present our own original, family-friendly and uplifting production of “THE GREATEST SHOW! Starring… YOU!” Up With Kids! created the concept of “All Star Acting” in which we write our own scripts and adapt the plays so that there is a challenging part for every single student, with speaking lines and a personality to develop. Every performer is a STAR! Audition techniques are taught but there are never any tryouts. Up With Kids! strives for a spirit of cooperation and teamwork rather than competition. Our curriculum and performances are always “G-rated” and family friendly. We celebrate family values.
Up With Kids students are divided into three age groups to accommodate the varying stages of child development. All classes come together every spring for an annual recital.

There are 3 classes that meet every Wednesday beginning at 4:30pm for youth ages 5 to 16 years old.

Black Angels is an Olympic style Tae Kwon Do. Programs are available for both kids and adults and cost $45.
